Hawaiian Telcom Awards $260,000 to Nearly 50 Local Nonprofits in First Half of 2006

HONOLULU – Hawaiian Telcom awarded $260,000 to 49 nonprofits statewide during the first half of the year. The donations were made through its Hoolaulima Program, which provides financial support and creates partnerships with Hawaii nonprofit groups.

“While our focus has been on returning all company operations back to the islands and restoring customer service, we understand the importance of investing in our communities” said Joel Matsunaga, Vice President – External Affairs. “We are a 100%-Hawaii company and are proud to support local nonprofits.”

“Just as important as financial support is volunteer support,” said Matsunaga. “I’m extremely gratified by the amount of time our employees give to serve the community, but I’m not surprised because volunteering is part of our company’s heritage.”

Hawaiian Telcom employees have donated their time to support numerous community projects, such as the recent Habitat for Humanity Build-A-Thon and American Diabetes Association’s Walk for Diabetes. The company also coordinates Adopt-A-Highway clean up efforts and Blood Drives every quarter.
